Red Hood

Jason Todd is an important character in DC Comics, known as the second Robin and later as the Red Hood. He first showed up in Batman #357, in March 1983, created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Don Newton. He was a street kid who got noticed by Batman when he tried to steal the Batmobile. Here are some of his abilities:

  • Master Martial Artist: He is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, having been trained by Batman and other mentors. His fighting style is aggressive and adaptable, allowing him to hold his own against formidable opponents.
  • Acrobatics: Like his predecessor, Dick Grayson, Jason is proficient in acrobatics, enabling him to maneuver swiftly and evade attacks.
  • Tactical Intelligence: Jason possesses keen tactical intelligence, allowing him to strategize effectively in combat situations and plan complex missions.
  • Weapon Proficiency: He is skilled in the use of various weapons, including firearms, knives, and explosives. As the Red Hood, he often employs guns and other firearms in his crime-fighting endeavors.
  • Stealth: Jason is adept at stealth and infiltration techniques, enabling him to move undetected and gather information covertly.
  • Resistance to Pain and Injury: Through rigorous training and experience, Jason has developed a high tolerance for pain and is capable of enduring significant physical trauma.

Red Hood’s Origin Story

Jason Todd’s origin story begins in Gotham City, where he grew up as an orphan surviving on the streets. After Batman caught him trying to steal the Batmobile’s tires, he saw potential in Jason and decided to take him under his wing. Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, trained Jason extensively, molding him into the second Robin, Batman’s trusted crime-fighting partner.

However, Jason’s approach to crime-fighting differed from his predecessor, Dick Grayson. He was more impulsive and aggressive, often challenging Batman’s methods. This strained their relationship, leading to conflicts between mentor and protege.

He embarked on a personal quest to find his biological mother, only to be captured and brutally murdered by the Joker. This tragic event shook Batman to his core.

Despite his death, Jason’s story didn’t end there. He was resurrected by the lazarus pit and returned to Gotham as the Red Hood. Embracing a darker persona, he operated outside the law, seeking his own brand of justice.

After becoming the Red Hood, Jason Todd diverged from Batman’s no-killing rule and embraced lethal force in his crime-fighting approach. Driven by his anger and a sense of betrayal, he believed that eliminating dangerous criminals was necessary for Gotham’s safety. This decision put him at odds with Batman and the rest of the Bat-Family, creating tension within the superhero community. Despite the moral ambiguity, Jason’s willingness to kill added complexity to his character.

Jason Todd, both as Robin and the Red Hood, has appeared in several movies and animated features within the DC Universe:

  1. “Batman: Under the Red Hood” (2010): This animated film adapts the “Under the Hood” storyline from the comics, where Jason Todd returns as the Red Hood seeking vengeance on Batman and Gotham’s criminals.
  2. “Batman: Death in the Family” (2020): A unique interactive film allowing viewers to choose the outcome of Jason Todd’s fate, adapted from the “A Death in the Family” storyline.
  3. “Batman: Hush” (2019): While not a central focus, Jason Todd makes a brief appearance in this animated film based on the “Hush” storyline, where he is briefly shown as Robin before his death.
  4. “Batman: Bad Blood” (2016): Jason Todd appears as the Red Hood, opposing Batman and the rest of the Bat-Family.
  5. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016): While not explicitly named, a vandalized Robin suit is seen in the Batcave, heavily implying that Jason Todd was a former Robin who met a tragic fate.
  6. “Titans” (2018-present): In the DC Universe/HBO Max series “Titans,” Jason Todd is a main character portrayed by actor Curran Walters. He is depicted as the current Robin, working alongside the Titans team. His character arc explores themes of identity, loyalty, and the consequences of his actions.

These movies showcase different aspects of Jason Todd’s character, from his time as Robin to his transformation into the Red Hood, providing insights into his complex relationship with Batman and the DC Universe.

Insomniac’s Wolverine Game (Upcoming Marvel Game)

Get ready to unleash the fury of Wolverine! Insomniac Games is crafting a brand new adventure set in the Marvel Universe, featuring the iconic mutant with adamantium claws. This standalone title isn’t just another web-slinging adventure; it’s a fresh story inspired by Wolverine’s rich comic book history and other media appearances.

The project officially came to light in September 2021, with veterans from Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020) at the helm: Creative Director Brian Horton and Game Director Cameron Christian. Storytelling duties fall on Mary Kenney (co-writer of Miles Morales) and Walt Williams & Nick Folkman (co-writers of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2).
